Questions about Community?

Posted by Chris Hoskins on March 2, 2009

I’m at a meeting just now about a new venture through the Church of Scotland called ‘Sanctuary First’. It’s a really exciting idea/opportunity. But I’ll chat more about that specifically later. We’re currently chatting about community and raising some interesting questions, please add your thoughts to these questions!? I’m purposely only asking the questions and not answering them mysel at the moment.

how do you define community? What words would you use? Why?
What are the markers of community?
Can a community be created? Does it only happen naturally?
Before community can ‘occur’ does it need to be given an opportunity to exist? or will comunity make its own opportunity, uneengineered?

Has anybody read “Community Without Community” in Deconstruction in a Nutshell (pp. 106-124)?
