Thank you both for taking part in the Rice and Beans challenge and for supporting Tearfund. We loved reading your account of the challenge. We have been sharing your blog around the office here and through our social networks. We know that it will encourage many more people to get involved, so THANK YOU.

Enjoy your cakes!

Been so brilliant to read your daily blogs Linda & Dave and hear your honesty in such a difficult challenge. I'm glad it's over for you both - Linda, you know how I worry myself sick about you all the time! I'm happy knowing you can eat again but identify with what you say about the poor and those who can't, so very much. We've always been Tear Fund supporters and their work is faithful, continual and lifesaving for so so many people, without whose help a whole lot more people would die. So, highlighting their work and bringing in more supporters can only be a great thing.
For now, enjoy food again, it'll make you appreciate it like never before!

Can only admire you both for sticking with it this far and experiencing what you've experienced throughout it. A huge huge challenge to all of us who know about world poverty but do very little to actually begin to put ourselves in that place, as we all love our comforts in this world far too much. If it was all taken away tomorrow, what would we do, who knows? Not cope well, that's for sure.
You're both an inspiration, truly.

Hi Chris,

To think when you were leaning out of the bus taking pictures of this and that, they would come out like this! Well done. The atmospheric one of the cyclist is very evocative of a world just trying to wake up. Or maybe that was just me.

             Keep going with the rest!

I remember sitting in the living room too! Craig & I visited GZ, and it was the oddest place. In the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world, you could hear virtually no sound. There was a palpable atmosphere, and few people even spoke. Tourists didnt take pictures, they (and we) just read the memorial plaques and had minutes of quiet reflection. Its good that a new, bigger and better tower is being built, one New Yorker told us that it is their way of (and I quote) 'flipping off the terrorists'! Such a brave city with fantastic people.

My comment from before probably should have gone here. But ayee, voting is a tricky issue and our debate on the issue amongst as a group really brought us together! :-)

It was not too rambly! :-D

You are so right with the youth reps representing diversity and there being a real unity in our diversity.

During the prep session for this report we had a lot of chat on the issue of voting. And it was amazing that we all had differing opinions. Sometimes from an outside point of view it can be easy to assume that all youth reps think the same. Think our diversity on this particular issue was represented well with different people getting up and being passionate on both sides.

It was a good day. Yessss. :-D

I was intrigued by this debate this morning. The emergence of an "indicative" vote as a compromise was especially interesting.

Our Young Adult Representatives (YARs) have had an "advisory" vote since 2009. This vote, which occurs only on issues selected by the YARs, occurs immediately prior to the full vote of Assembly. The institution of the advisory vote arose out of an overture to the 2008 General Assembly requesting full voting participation of YARs.
