I have been cycling to and from work for several years. Luckily I live only 4 miles or so from the office, Its quicker than bus, more flexible and gives me a daily exercise. Cycling only ten miles a week can give you the health profile of someone ten years younger but it is also an enjoyable way to travel.

Since I did a 350 mile sponsored cycle ride in Galilee in aid of the EMMS hospital in Nazareth, I can't cycle any more. Old age has crept up on me. I'm lucky to be near lots of buses & use my Freedom Pass everywhere.

I agree in principal but you have to accept that there are often good reasons for people not walking. I personally am disabled and can only walk about 150 mtrs. Then there are the mums with three kids who would find walking any distance impossible. Just making sure that you don't fall into the trap of judging others without all of the correct information.

I think the fact that you're wrestling with your "lack of thinking about those in need' shows you are thinking about it. Perhaps it's not on your mind 24/7 - but it's still on your mind.
Keep going!

Wow, I can't believe Joshua's 4 already. I remember when Paula was still pregnant!

Your challenge sounds really interesting and testing. I hope you succeed.

Well done Chris, for your honesty and your willingness. I couldn't do it, I know it and I admire you, Linda & Dave hugely for your self-sacrifice, focus on others in poverty and praying for/remembering all the special people you met in countries overseas, recognising how hard it will be for you this week Chris.
Thinking of you heaps.
Love
Ann

Thank you both for taking part in the Rice and Beans challenge and for supporting Tearfund. We loved reading your account of the challenge. We have been sharing your blog around the office here and through our social networks. We know that it will encourage many more people to get involved, so THANK YOU.

Enjoy your cakes!

Been so brilliant to read your daily blogs Linda & Dave and hear your honesty in such a difficult challenge. I'm glad it's over for you both - Linda, you know how I worry myself sick about you all the time! I'm happy knowing you can eat again but identify with what you say about the poor and those who can't, so very much. We've always been Tear Fund supporters and their work is faithful, continual and lifesaving for so so many people, without whose help a whole lot more people would die. So, highlighting their work and bringing in more supporters can only be a great thing.
For now, enjoy food again, it'll make you appreciate it like never before!

Can only admire you both for sticking with it this far and experiencing what you've experienced throughout it. A huge huge challenge to all of us who know about world poverty but do very little to actually begin to put ourselves in that place, as we all love our comforts in this world far too much. If it was all taken away tomorrow, what would we do, who knows? Not cope well, that's for sure.
You're both an inspiration, truly.
